Nucleus classification and bile duct detection in liver histology

Bile ducts are often analyzed for diagnosis of liver disease, and are an important histopathological structure in liver tissues. We presents an automatic approach to their detection: cell nuclei and other artifacts are detected using a Hough technique; epithelial nuclei are then classified from these objects; inner areas of bile ducts are constructed by iterative voting based on positions of the nuclei; bile duct candidates are thus located before they are classified into bile and non-bile duct using a Bayesian Network. Initial results are encouraging.
